Awkward Human Contact

Earlier this week Lizzie and I were returning from church and we needed to get gas so I took advantage of the time to get my truck washed... That was our fist mistake.

We went to what I thought was a drive-thru car wash that I could just punch in the code and get a simple wash, but it was not so. We pulled up to the wash that appeared to be closed. "Ok, I'll come back tomorrow," I thought to myself. When out of nowhere comes this guy from the store, obviously perturbed that we would patron the car wash at 10:00 p.m. at night. He asked if I purchased a wash, I said "Yes, deluxe!" He looked back at me like I'm totally insane.... I had to hold back my laughter.

At this point I'm thinking to myself, ok that was weird, maybe their machine was down when I see him soaping a brush.... He's going to wash my truck!!! I thought this was self serve.

After the awkwardness of having to see him through my windows WASHING my truck, he starts the machine for me to drive through. As we are inside we thought we would never see him again because this comes with a blow dry... NOT! He was on the other side with towels.

Needless to say I had to give the man a tip... but he didn't stick around long enough to make it seem natural, so I had to yell at him to come back, about 20 feet, to get a wad of ones I had fished out of my wallet...

I learned a few things that night, one is that I will never come back there again...!

Christmas Gift

My wife and I just opened a Christmas gift we bought for ourselves. It was supposed to come gift-wrapped so we could put it under the tree... I guess the cat's out of the bag...

Tis' the Season

So every year Starbucks comes out with a Christmas cookie, and I have to eat at least one. This year they made a Christmas bear and it was delicious!


When I sent this picture to my wife she didn't even know it was a cookie. She thought it was an ad or display.

Keep it up Starbucks and I will continue my end of the bargain and eat only one Christmas cookie.

Political Lions Den

I'm sure I speak for most people when I say that I will be happy when I wake up tomorrow and know that I will not be bombarded with political ads on TV and phone calls on my cell asking me to vote, or reminding me to vote. I think I may never answer my phone to an unknown caller again..

Maybe my conversations with people will get a little better too. These past few weeks have been like living in a political lions den, it has been hard not to have a politically flavored conversation with my friends and even colleagues. Many of us like me have forgotten the polite etiquette of not to bringing up politics in conversations, but how can you not when you are surrounded by television, radio, and billboard ads all telling you otherwise.

Tomorrow will bring back a simpler time for most of us. A time when we will once again complain about our political leaders saying that there is nothing we can do to change it, almost condoning it as part of the their job to do a bad job. I mean what can you expect they are government employees aren't they?... I guess They're not all bad though since my wife is a government employee also.

Neighborhood Car Accident

At 2:18 p.m. this afternoon three vehicles were involved in an accident a few houses down from my home. By the time I came to the scene many of my neighbors had already mobilized and helped those involved out of their vehicles and called for emergency personal. Two people were taken to local area hospitals but only had minor injuries.

One neighbor went above and beyond by helped comfort a grandfather and grandson whose truck was immobilized, her name is June, a retired employee of UMC. She provided them chairs to rest and water during the whole ordeal. Her acts of kindness really make me glad to be a member of this community, knowing that so many people like her are willing help when there is need.

Special thanks also to the Fresno Fire Department who were the first on the the scene.

Me Eating A Chicken Head

Things at Sam and Susie Lee's wedding reception in Monterey Park last night got very lively when I was asked to eat a chicken head. Well not the whole head, but the brains. Now I have the mental capacity of a grown man and a bird. Awesome!



Who know chicken brains tasted oh so good...

These Last Two Months

Just a few more days to my wedding, and even less to finish all my class assignments for this session. It seems when I feel like I can't handle any more stress more is placed upon me. It is in these times when I feel the Lord's presence around me and the people of God covering me in prayer.

School began with me quitting my job in mid-June and from that point it has been nothing but school. Well except for half a week that I had off between sessions. This semester is going to be the same. I have one week off, this just happens to be the week that I am getting married, next week. My next class begins two days after the wedding and when my first assignment is due I don't even think I will be in the country. Sadly, this is why I will be having to bring my computer, and maybe even some books with me to get some work done. Because these are eight week intensive classes, getting behind is so easy to do, and catching up is next to impossible.

These pictures where taken as I was preparing for my Old Testament class finals in my last session. As you can see I was having my great lunch of turkey on whole grain bread, half a cup of low fat cottage cheese, and a diet pepsi. The "desk" is really my dining room table because usually I have twice as much stuff out at once, this was a study day for the OT and my office desk is too small; and the office doesn't have a large HD TV in it with a DVD player to watch my lectures.

This next week will hopefully bring some relief before the big day. Lizzie went and got me some face "productos" so I don't look half dead.

Attractions at the Fair

As many fair goers found out today the concerts at the Paul Paul Amphitheater were cancelled meaning that those planning on seeing Michael W. Smith and Worth Dying For had to find other things to spend their time on. Well if you still have not gone out there, or still cannot decide, you still have a chance to see the home made crafts from Heritage Center of Fresno.
